My thanks to Michael Little, who sent me these when he found out I didn't have any.

The story he tells me is that a large number of these were found in a warehouse, where they had been stored pending shipment to New York for sale as souveniers at the 1939 World's Fair.

These have been turning up a lot lately, in both gold plated and chrome lower barrels, and they are always seem to be in pristine condition -- consistent with finding a large stash of stock in a warehouse.  However, judging from the materials and construction, I think 1939 is a bit early (metal and solid color combinations did not become vogue until after the introduction of the Parker 51 in the 1940s).

Research continues.
